Dear friend and colleague

Our Centre initiated annual UK meetings to consider the utility and pitfalls of biochar in 2009 and 2010.  These gave the opportunity for researchers to present their work and discuss the emerging findings.

The third annual meeting will be held - back in Edinburgh - on Wes 25th and Thu 26th May 2011.

I hope you will be interested in this meeting and consider registering.  It is relatively informal, and if you have data or a position to discuss, there is still time to submit an abstract for a poster or talk (but within the next four weeks please!). Rather than a Centre working paper as previously, an output of this years' meeting will be a journal special issue - so publication is a possibility.

The event as a whole remains cross-disciplinary and has no "entry requirement"; the charge for attending is nominal. Before, we have also had international participation and the conference should be of interest to those concerned with this topic in Europe, or already planning a trip from further afield around that time.

Finally, the conference will be preceded (on 24th May) by the opening of a pilot scale continuous flow pyrolysis facility sited on the University of Edinburgh campus at Kings Buildings. We hope that this facility will support the national / international research community working with biochar, by producing larger amounts of well specified biochar by scaleable process - the opening is also a public event.
